Red Robin Graphic
The goal of this project was to create a shape that was made up of words or a letterform. I keep the color palette simple, of only black and red with a white background. Since, I was going to fill up the graphic with a lot of letters and words I wanted to keep the number of font styles down, I decided on only two. The saying, "Fly little bird. Fly in the sky. Fly up high." stuck in my head. I used it as inspiration for the letterform, and chose a red robin as my main object.
I first sketched a simple outline of a robin and then used that as a template. I filled in the robin shape with red letters that spell the word "robin." I tried multiple different fonts until I found one that would compliment a unique font I found and wanted to use for the letterform background. This background font was very stylized, a serif font and on the heavier side. To keep the graphic from feeling too busy and confusing, I chose a font for the robin that was simple, round and soft. To give the robin depth I varied the font size of the letters that filled in the robin shape.
By having the background font formal and stylized looking compared to the simple bubble looking font of the robin, it creates the perfect amount of separation between them, which I feel is necessary for this design.
To add more interest and kept the viewer's eye moving around the graphic, I changed certain words in the background from black to red.
In the end this was a very fun project and I am very happy with the final design.
